🏛️ Station Overview
Newcastle Central Station (officially Newcastle upon Tyne) is one of Britain's great Victorian railway stations, sitting on Neville Street in the heart of the city. Opened in 1850 and Grade I listed, its magnificent curved train shed and classical portico make it as much a landmark as a transport hub.
The station is managed by Network Rail and serves as the primary interchange between long-distance East Coast Main Line services and regional trains across the North East, Cumbria, and beyond. It is also directly connected to the Tyne and Wear Metro network, making it the busiest transport node in the region.
🗺️ Station Layout & Platforms
Newcastle Central's distinctive curved shed spans its platforms from west to east. The main concourse runs along the southern side, connecting the booking hall, ticket gates, and retail units. A north-south subway beneath the tracks links all platforms and provides step-free access between them.
